You step from the atrium into a room open on two sides, though these can be closed with curtains. The room is designed so that anyone standing in the vestibule can see straight through the atrium and tablinum to the colonnaded garden in the back of the house--a very impressive vista! In this room all the family records are stored; here Paullus Aemilius Lepidus would greet his many clients on their morning visits.
