My name is Coelia Mascellina, and I am a freeborn Roman citizen from the province of Baetica, daughter of Gnaeus Coelius Masculus and Atilia. This is my first trip to Rome, and I am very excited about exploring the city and seeing the sights. I am here on business, since my parents are dead now and I recently took over my mother's business as an exporter of wine and especially olive oil from Baetica (notice the olive oil amphora at my feet). I will soon be meeting with the praefectus annonae to negotiate a contract so I can ensure a steady supply of our excellent Baetican olive oil to Rome for the citizenry and the army. My mother Atilia was the daughter of Titus Atilius Atilianus, so I am the third generation of negotiatores olearii ex Baetica, and I plan to equal if not exceed their success in the business. Do you see the new signaculum I am holding up? This is the official bronze stamp of my business, with my name in Latin and Greek so it can be read throughout the empire. I have just had this made and am very proud of it. Soon the world will know my nameāor at least those people who enjoy wine and olive oil (doesn't that include everybody?). If you go across the Tiber near the Circus of Nero, you will see the large, beautiful marble plaque (nearly six feet long) with an inscription I had carved to honor the memory of my parents.
