The marble steps of the Basilica Julia are crowded with men assembling and milling around (see detail of steps). Several groups of potential jurors are squatted down in clusters. Upon further investigation, it seems they are playing games on inscribed gaming tables carved onto the marble stairs.
The Roman paving along the north side of the Basilica is still preserved, and remains from the Republican era can now be seen in a trench cut into the paving.
