You enter a study whose walls are covered with shelves holding many volumes and a quantity of scrolls. The ceilings are high and paneled. In the far corner is a writing table on which a strange device sits. It is shaped like a box and seems to rest on a stand allowing movement. The side of the box facing the wall behind the table is made of a vitreous substance like the unstirring surface of a lake. In the mysterious glow coming from this surface you see a baffling array of text and images.
