Caecilia Metella

tomb of Caecilia Metella

Just before reaching the third milestone, you see a huge tomb that was built in 50-40 B.C. for Caecilia Metella. She was the daughter of the consul, Quintus Caecilius Metellus Creticus and the wife of Crassus, son to the triumvir, Marcus Crassus. Here also, near the end of the second mile, you can see the burial place of the Forum's pet crow, whose popularity and death were described by Pliny the Elder.
