Cella of the Temple of Claudius

model of Colchester cella

Our information on the temple comes from a very few fragments of the marble plan of Rome, so this room is very conjectural. Our sources merely tell us that the cella was without interior columns, somewhat different from this reconstruction of the Temple of the Deified Claudius in Colchester.

We see a statue of Claudius as Jupiter in an apse at the rear center of the cella. In side niches are busts and statues of members of his family; click on the objects below for more information or consult the detailed online biographies of Claudius and Nero. There is also a priest here who can answer your questions about the future.
