Messalina and Britannicus statue

This statue shows Claudius' wife Messalina holding Britannicus, the infant heir of Claudius. The statue reflects an optimistic time before Claudius ordered the execution of Messalina for treason and before Nero had Britannicus murdered to prevent his claiming the throne that Nero had inherited.
