Scalae Caci (Stairs of Cacus)

You stand on the most ancient stairway on the Palatine Hill. Named after the famous "monster" Cacus, met and defeated by Hercules, the stairs lead down toward the bustling Forum Boarium and up toward the Area Sacra, where the temples of the Magna Mater and Victory are located.
