TABLINUM

The openness of the TABLINUM is the first thing you notice as you step into this room. You see the DOORS that can be shut for privacy, but at the moment they are folded back to allow a full view from the atrium to the peristyle. You know that in the original design of the house, this room was the center of focus for the patron, the place to receive his clients, guest, and entertain. However, now the room looks to just be used as a display, the original furniture and ornaments remaining, but showing little use. It appears that Cornelius is preserving this room also, a nice effect you think. You see the SOLIUM to your left, such a nicely designed piece of furniture. As you look at the floor, you see another well constructed MOSAIC. To the other side is a table where some of the original JEWELS of the family are displayed. Finally, next to you on you right you see a BUST of the original owner of the HOUSE OF THE JEWELS, the patron who built this domus. After inspecting each of these items, you decide to rest for a few minutes sitting on the step to the atrium and then proceed with your exploring.
