main door

The grandeur of the VESTIBULUM is accentuated by the size of the main door. As you examine the door close-up, you see that it is constructed of wood and covered in bronze. When the ianitor opens the door, you see that it turns on pivots (cardo), typical to the domus. Along the front are DORIC COLUMNS. The size of the door adds to your initial impressions of the house as one of a wealthy patron. Once the ianitor admits you, you proceed into the fauces with anticipation.
