Catullus XIIII

A scroll of Catullus poem XIIII in which he declares, Saturnalibus, optimo dierum.

In poem XIIII Catullus contrasts his present circumstances with the expectation of happiness which Romans held at Saturnalia. Here is the Latin text of the poem."Ni te plus oculis meis amarem,iucundissime Calve, munere isoodissem te odio Vatiniano:
nam quid feci ego quidve sum locutus,
cur me tot male perderes poetis?
