Under Floor

Underneath the arena floor, lie intricate mazes intended to hold fighting beasts and brave gladiators. Today you are able to see stone entrances with gates used as hold cells. There were also several sets of pulleys used to raise and lower objects onto the arena floor. Another option was to flood the arena and hold mock battles from the sea. The wooden floor above the cells was covered with gravel and sand.
