Three aquaducts pass over the Porta Tibertina , the highest of which is the Aqua Iulia originally constructed by M Agrippa in 33 B.C. and passing near the Circus Maximus. Rebuilt by Augustus in 5 B.C., the following inscription adorned the aquaduct.

IMP · CAESAR · DIVI · IULI · F · AUGUSTUS · PONTIFEX · MAXIMUS · COS · XII · TRIBUNIC · POTESTAT ·XIX · IMP · XIIII · RIVOS · AQUARUM · OMNIUM · REFECIT

The lowest of the three , the Aqua Marcia, restored by Titus in 79 A.D. displayed an appropriate inscription which reads
